Artisan weaving Moonj grass

One Craft. Three Pillars.

MoonjCraft is a certified export house that bridges the gap between India's ancient Moonj grass weaving tradition and global markets. Here's exactly how we work.

The Craft

Handwoven Moonj Grass Products

We deal exclusively in products made from Moonj grass (Saccharum munja) — a sacred, wild grass harvested from the banks of the Ganga. Every basket, tray, and décor piece is 100% hand-woven by artisans, with no machines, no synthetics, and no shortcuts.

  • Storage baskets & trays
  • Decorative home décor pieces
  • Custom & bulk orders welcome

The Artisans

Rural Women of Northern India

We work directly with clusters of skilled women artisans from Prayagraj, Deoria, and surrounding regions of Uttar Pradesh. These women carry generations of weaving knowledge. We handle the business side — export, logistics, compliance — so they can focus entirely on their craft.

  • Fair wages, direct partnerships
  • Named artisans behind every product
  • Women-led, community-rooted

The Export

Global Supply, End-to-End

We are a DGFT-registered, ISO-certified, EPCH & FIEO member export house. Whether you're a boutique retailer in Europe, a wholesale importer in the US, or an interior brand anywhere in the world, we handle everything from product sourcing and quality inspection to export documentation and international shipping.

  • Wholesale & bulk supply
  • Export documentation handled
  • Worldwide shipping & logistics
Master artisan Kiran Devi weaving

It Started with One Woman

We didn't set out to build a company. MoonjCraft began with a chance encounter — at the edge of Prayagraj's sacred confluence — that quietly redefined what we thought we knew about purpose.

She sat alone, hands in constant motion — coiling, weaving, shaping Moonj grass into something extraordinary. No shop. No brand. No reach beyond her village. But her knowledge was deep, her craft precise, and her situation deeply unfair.

She wasn't the only one. Across the region, women like her were keeping an ancient tradition alive — invisibly, quietly, without recognition or reward.

MoonjCraft exists to change that. We work directly with these artisans — handling the business, building the bridge, and ensuring that credit always goes where it belongs: to the hands that made it.

"Named for the shade these women provide — to their families, their communities, and a craft that was quietly fading away."

THE PROCESS

How Moonj Craft is Made

From riverbank to your home, every step is performed by hand using time-honored techniques.

01

Harvesting

Moonj grass is hand-cut from the riverbanks during the right season, when the stalks are strong and mature.

02

Drying

The grass is spread out in the sun and dried naturally for several days until it reaches the right flexibility.

03

Sorting & Splitting

Artisans sort the grass by thickness and split the strands by hand to get consistent, workable fibres.

04

Weaving & Shaping

Using traditional techniques passed down over generations, artisans coil, weave, and bind the fibres by hand.

05

Finishing

Products are dried, trimmed, and quality-checked. Some pieces receive natural dyes or decorative accents.

06

Ready for You

Each piece is packed with care and sent on its way to a new home. 100% biodegradable, from earth back to earth.
