One Craft. Three Pillars.

MoonjCraft is a certified export house that bridges the gap between India's ancient Moonj grass weaving tradition and global markets. Here's exactly how we work.

The Craft

Handwoven Moonj Grass Products

We deal exclusively in products made from Moonj grass (Saccharum munja) — a sacred, wild grass harvested from the banks of the Ganga. Every basket, tray, and décor piece is 100% hand-woven by artisans, with no machines, no synthetics, and no shortcuts.

  • Storage baskets & trays
  • Decorative home décor pieces
  • Custom & bulk orders welcome

  • Fair wages, direct partnerships
  • Named artisans behind every product
  • Women-led, community-rooted

THE PROCESS

How Moonj Craft is Made

OI

Harvesting

Moonj grass is hand-cut from the riverbanks during the right season, when the stalks are strong and mature.

02

Drying

The grass is spread out in the sun and dried naturally for several days until it reaches the right flexibility.

03

Sorting & Splitting

Artisans sort the grass by thickness and split the strands by hand to get consistent, workable fibres.

04

Soaking

Before weaving, the fibres are soaked in water to make them pliable and easy to shape.

05

Weaving & Shaping

Using traditional techniques passed down over generations, artisans coil, weave, and bind the fibres by hand.

06

Finishing

Products are dried, trimmed, and quality-checked. Some pieces receive natural dyes or decorative accents.

07

Ready for You

Each piece is packed with care and sent on its way to a new home.

FROM EARTH

Back to Earth

Every piece is 100% biodegradable.

THE HANDS BEHIND EVERY PIECE

Meet Our Artisans

Every product from MoonjCraft is made by a real person. Here are the women behind the weave.

Rama learned Moonj craft from her mother-in-law. She specialises in vintage baskets and grain containers, and is the quiet anchor of her artisan group.

"For Rama, weaving is not a job — it is a rhythm, a daily prayer."
Artisan Anshika Pandey
Decorative Items

Anshika Pandey

Prayagraj Region

The youngest in our artisan family, Anshika brings fearlessness. She tries new shapes, sizes, and colour combinations... pushing Moonj craft toward new forms.

"Ancient craft and fresh imagination are not opposites."
Artisan Sabina Khatoon

Sabina's hands move so fast that visitors stop to watch. Over 15 years, she has developed a distinctive diagonal pattern of remarkable strength and beauty.

"Her signature diagonal pattern takes twice as long... and shows it."
Artisan Aaradhya Singh
